Not responsible for misuse of rope halters. Do not leave any halter on a loose horse. So i decided to create my own video tutorial to see if i could share this fun and interesting activity with other horse lovers in my own and hopefully easier way. Although this may not be obvious the halter hitch knot is actually a noose knot tied with a bight for quick release i e it is slipped.

To tie a rope halter start by tying 2 regular knots in the middle of the rope. A rope halter is best used with a 12 foot lead rope for more leverage. Then extend the 2 ends of the rope and tie a simple overhand knot on the bottom strand and the top strand to form the throat latch. Next fold the rope over to form a cross shape pull the loop through and pull the knot tight.

I ve found many different instructions online that teach you how to tie a rope halter with a fiador knot. The halter hitch knot should be used with the appropriate precautions. It is also topologically identical to the falconer s hitch but the falconer usually ties the knot one handed. A rope halter may cut if a horse fights it.

Some rope halters have knots on either side of the nose while others have a band of thicker rope. Tie knot 2 easier to loosen time. As a training aid rope halters allow horse owners to use the least amount of pressure and the ability to release that. The thinner the rope the more uncomfortable the halter when pressure is applied compared to thicker diameter rope halters.
